Suck on an Eye Pop

Good Studio Friday 10.04.20

Today was Good Friday, which I must admit somewhat snuck up on me. In the sense that is was in fact a public holiday. But, I decided not to waste the day slacking off, and stick to my new 2020 routine of working in my art studio on Fridays. If you read my previous post, you would have heard all about the importance of dedicated time. So I made a nice big coffee and headed downstairs to get to work.

From Concept to Reality

I sketched out the idea of "Eye Pops" a while back, and decided today would be the perfect day to transform them from a concept to reality. After creating the irises and baking my polymer clay eyeballs, I added some extra blood spatter and blood shot detailing. I coated each Eye Pop in a gorgeous, candy-tinted gloss that complimented the colour of the iris. Which colour is your favorite?

A Learning Process

There are a couple of things I plan to do differently next time around, but overall I'm really pleased with how my polymer clay Eye Pops turned out. I especially love the candy-tinted gloss that contrasts so nicely against the icky horror factor!

I also have an experimental variation underway, which will be a spin-off of a toffee apple! Stay tuned to see how that goes, and subscribe if you would like to receive regular updates from Lunatic Ramblings and see what I get up to on Studio Fridays. Bye for now sucker!

My name is Rachel Weaver. An artist inspired by sugar and spice… and things not so nice. Experimenting with polymer clay and mixed media to create the weird ideas that fill my head late at night.
